Schirripa Brothers' Mini Golf Tour 2009
In the beginning of September, Nick and I took our annual brothers' golf trip. Rather than go to a single resort, as we had done in the past, we decided to make it a tour of courses. So in four days we played 135 holes. Here is a rundown of where we played.
Day 1:
- 1-18 at Hawk Hollow - A nice course, and a great to start off the trip.
- The Little Hawk - This is a natural green putting course with traps, elevation changes, rough, the works. Fun! [Nick: Mini golf! Yippee!]
Day 2:
- 19-27 at Hawk Hollow - Beautiful and brutal. [Nick: "Brutal" doesn't even begin to describe it.]
- Eagle Eye - an amazing course, and hey, I hit the island green! [Nick: Tony didn't just hit the island green, he played an amazing round. Tough course that demanded accurate shot placement before distance, and Tony was up to the challenge on virtually every hole.]
Day 3:
- St. Ives - A beautiful and challenging course cut through the woods.
- Tullymore - Possibly my favorite of the trip, only sullied by the ongoing development of homes on its fringes. Nick made the most amazing shot on #18 here: a 195 4 iron fade, between two trees, to about 5 feet. And to think I doubted! [Nick: It was a 5 iron, and it also was over water. I was left with a short eagle putt, but I missed it. Over-read the green. I'd love to bore you all with the shot details, but I'll trust you get the point.]
Day 4:
- Beeches - a nice track in South Haven - it has a 670 yard par 5!
- Hawks Head - another Arthur Hills course, my 3rd of the year and 7th or 8th ever. Although the staff were slightly less than friendly, the course was fun with some giant waste bunkers. [Nick: We'll have to tell you about the father and son with whom we golfed the front 9. That could be another post.]
Sadly, my camera broke partway into day 2, so there aren't many pictures. I did put those that I took up on the Metaphysicalrockstar Gallery, so click on over there and take a look. And I am excited to say, only 11 more months and counting until the next adventure into golfing in the great state of Michigan for the brothers Schirripa!
[Nick: AND... We're always looking for new courses to play. If you know a course (or two, or seven) let us know. We just might add them to our tour!]
Where Social Networking & Parenting Collide
Just read an interesting article and thought I'd share it. Curious how the internet and its many facets are starting to impact our society as a whole. First, there is this article, which is a good and interesting read. Then there is this site dedicated to parent-based, social-networking faux pas. This video from the Onion throws a pretty funny, satirical spin on the topic.

There are a few websites I check regularly, so I thought I would share them with you all (all 3 of you). Proceed to look at them at your own risk, I take no responsability for their content.
== First, there is The Superficial: This is a Hollywood gossip blog, and it is not [always] safe for work (NSFW). The writer is really critical and cynical and it just makes me laugh. Also, there a re lots of bikinis, which I like.
== Next is Woot! Woot has a single item for sale every day. They get things that are refurbished, overstocked, discontinued, etc. and sell them all in one day (or until the item sells out) at a very cheap price. I have gotten a few really good deals here, and I find it well worth the 30 seconds it takes to check it each day. They also have Shirt Woot, which features a different T-shirt, designed and submitted by an Average Joe, each day... I have a couple of those too!
== Sweet Juniper is a blog written by my freshman year college roommate. He is a very intelligent guy who, after being a lawyer in San Francisco for a few years, moved with his wife and kids to Detroit. His writing and photography are greatly entertaining and insightful, and offer a view of Detroit that is often at odds with its nationally perceived [bad] reputation.
== Next is another one that makes me laugh - DontEvenReply.com; it is just a guy who finds adds on Craig's list and then prank-emails people. It is a bit crude, but pretty darn funny.
== And finally a few quickies:
= This blog, The Newbie Chronicles, is written by a guy who is a beginning runner, and as we have that in common, I find it both funny and motivational.
= This YouTube channel, the Fail Blog, is hilarious and a great way to kill time in short bursts - FAIL!
= And finally, for the gentlemen out there, I have found one of the greatest pages ever: it provides two things all men like - explosions and boobs. Click on either picture to reload with new images! Proceed with caution as this might not be safe for work or with kids... not too bad, but might require some relatively uncomfortable explaining. ![]()
So that's the list for now. Have a site you check everyday? Throw it in the comments section so we can all share in the glory that is the internet. ![]()
New Skate Sharpening Technique
This sounds great, but I have one question: how long will it be before we get this around here so that I can try it? Hopefully sooner than later.
Cash For Clunkers is a go!
I am happy to announce that I am getting a new car! The cash for clunkers program proved just too tempting to pass on, not to mention getting twice the miles per gallon. I will officially be picking up my new Honda Fit Sport on Saturday, so anyone who wants a free ride better sign up in the comments section.
